The stone inlay may be a little tougher to sand when it’s coarse but when the inlay is essentially completed go to 180-220-320-400 grits for the nal sanding. Run the lathe slowly during this phase of power sanding and keep the sandpaper cool. In soft woods use care not to erode the wood around the inlay creating a stone ‘dome’. 5

Hi everyone I’m looking for advice on the best material to use for two separate crushed opal inlay projects I’m wanting to try. I have searched the archives on this topic, and can’t find anything more recent than perhaps 10 years ago on best brands for resin /epoxy / CA for inlay / crushed stone inlay. Recommendations then tended to A) 5 minute epoxy B) HXTAL (museum grade glue) C) hot

Step 2: Crushing. First, put the .75" pipe cap on the 1" pipe. Second, put the stone that needs to be crushed into the 1.5" pipe cap. Third, put the end of the smaller pipe cap on top of the stone and give the end of the pipe 1 good smack with your hammer. Watch out for your fingers if you miss!

With CA you can fill with crushed stone and only the openings between the stones/grit will be filled with CA and it is clear. With epoxy you can only mix the stone and grit with the epoxy and you can''t use all stone, also you have to guess as to how much you do need, so any left over is wasted or else you might not have enough, with the CA you can take all the time in the world to get the
